I am currently harvesting my veggie crops, its autumn here.  Mainly tomatoes, beans and carrots and lemons from my 3 trees.  Decided to concentrate on building a good herb garden, have mint, tarragon, 2x parsley, 4 x basil, spearmint, oregano, rosemary, lavender, sage, caffier lime, coriander and chiles x3.  My parsley and basil now self seed each yr.

Love the onset of the cooler months, not as much work keeping everything under control. Where I live the warmer months are crazy for growing. Even in the winter it stays pretty mild. All my neighbours are either in small crops, stonefruit or macadamias. I try and grow watever they aren't. Summer just gone I grew corn, tomatoes, zucchunies and a heap of watermelons.

I transplanted six bunches of broccoli yesterday, 3 cantaloupe and one tomato plant which i grew inside for the first time. I had a bunch more tomato plants earlier this spring, but my wife put the planter out too close to the front door and i kicked them over hurrying to work.

Neckbones has a flower garden? LMFAO! better not let Dipstic find out.

Chip you must be somewhere cold and high and north like Montana.

Here in Ozzie, its turning winter (10-15 C) but still warm in the day.  Its interesting we get one crop in Dec, then the Jan sun cooks the crap out of everything at 35-ish, then when that calms down whatever survives gives you a second crop in May, like tomatoes.

The herbs are going well with the parsley giving a second crop, the chilies going from green to red (real hot) and the 4 species of basil I have, seeding everywhere.

Chip,  just be like HTRN and get yourself a topsy turvy tomato plant and hang it from your living room ceiling, it should be fine as long as you keep the pigs and goats in the other rooms

Decided to get a couple of chickens to roam around my huge garden.  My son Liam and myself bought the coop over the internet and assembled it together.  Bought two 18 weeks ISA browns (supposed to be good egg layers).  The chickens were $20 each and $49 for the water and  food gravity feeder, wood chipping and 10kg of food - pretty good I thought.  After 3 weeks we have 2 eggs, 2 happy boys and plenty of chicken manure for the garden, once compossed down a bit. My younger son Shaun picks them up by the tail with legs and wings flapping everywhere, also found him in the chicken coop the other day, luckily I had cleaned out the crap.

Winter here now so nothing really growing (herbs are good still though), althoughlast yr I did grow peas.

Chickens are getting braver, one just wonder past the lounge window, so they have made it now to the front garden.  Looking forward to more eggs.

Cheers,
Mungo.

P.S. they love cheese and strawberry tops.

Have a ton of peas at the moment, harvesting as fast as I can.  Transitioning the garden over from winter/spring to spring/summer.  Lots of tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, etc. taking the place of the spinach, onions, and peas.  Lettuce seems to be doing ok.  Some started to bolt but I snipped them at first sign, while others are getting quite leafy.  Some big radishes and also some really small throw away radishes that are flowering - shows soil variance.

This is really my first attempt at a garden in a long time. I've had tomato plants before, and corn, but thats about it. A huge bush of large tomatoes are finally starting to ripen. I've had one nice green pepper off my only pepper plant. Two others peppers are taking its place. I have four broccoli plants that are getting big. Just a bunch of leafs now. Wondering how and when they produce. Meanwhile, my wife noticed a large watermelon vine growing in the compost pile where i threw one out last year. We also planted grapes and raspberry bushes. we've had a few raspberries so far, but the grape vines are growing very slowly.
