Killer ants
Jun 22nd, 2010, 8:34am

Whats the best way of getting rid of red ants without having to use something thats harmful to my boys and i dont want a baldy lawn also? I have never been attacked by ants in england and didnt even know we had bloody biting red ants. Im in a bad state as i was sitting right on top of a nest. My legs, feet and bollocks are burning, but thankfully my little boy only suffered 1 bite on his ankle. All suggestions would be appreciated and im desperate too get rid of them so my sons can play out again.

Hey Mc find on youtube an episode from Billy the Exterminator.  He uses some type of organic spray,  which is made from a trees natural defense.  Just remember the episode, but not the actual name of the spray.  Hope this helps.

I've used vinegar on ants before.  Could also try boiling water if you're feeling especially cruel that day.

i tried boiling water and it worked for a day but it doesnt penetrate the bloody nest.....ive put coffee and peppermint down on the lawn as i read that ants hate the smell so hopefully that will work if not ill pure vinegar over the nests....does it ruin the grass though? i have spend a lot of man hours getting my grass near perfect you see and would hate to have baldy patches on it. i think ive developed an ocd with my lawn. if i see my eldest boy and his mate playing on it and i wanna boot them up the ass lol and tell them to get of it...how bad is that?

Well i guess gasoline and a match is out then. Just call a pest control company and let the pros take care of it for you.

Guess that rules out calling this guy:

Try the vinegar.  If that doesn't work.... rip up the grass, and replace it with edible fruit & veggies.  The kids will play ball at the park, and be stoked to help grow things they're actually eating.  And it will save money & chemicals too.

haha you sound like gerald celente about ripping up ya lawn and start doing something productive. Im actually addicted to watching an listening to gerald celente since you posted the meltdown clip. I actually bought trends 2000 and what zizi gave honeyboy but havent started the second one yet as im too busy posting to ug LOL (joke). Also have you or do you know anybody who subcribes to the trends magazine? I want to know if its worth the money.

RE Ants....ive just had a look and there seems to be less. But if they do get worse i think ill take your advice and get pest control in, but when it comes to paying for things that i should be doing myself, i tend to get tighter than a ducks ass and begrudge paying it but i might have no choice soon. Maybe i am becomming a grumpy old man.

Celente tells the truth, in a non-political way.  He bashes both sides (as well he should, IMHO).  That's why it's so refreshing & addictive.  I have not myself subscribed to the journal.

But seriously.. it takes a ton of petro chemicals to maintain the typical lawn.  This uses a lot of oil, and other nasty stuff.  Kids will find places to play... really... and they will really get a boost out of learning how to garden.

From Asterix in Britain

It reads "After 2000 years of maintenance, my lawn will be quite bearable, I think."

There's some truth behind stereotypes after all!!

Im trying to build a roof garden but Ive found that only yuccas and cacti can survive the sunlight. Any other suggestions?

vaggos i reckon its just too hot in greece to grow lush green grass. In britain we have alot of rain mate. Last time i went to greece (skiathos) it was bloody nearly 40c. Thats just way too hot. you have some beautiful limes and other fruits and the most amazing fish dishes so your kind of lucky really. good luck with the roof garden though mate its gonna be tough though and i wouldnt know how to help ya sorry.

And might I add olive trees and vines  Smiley

Skiathos is like the amazon rainforest compared to cyclades!
In any case its good to hear that you had visited greece and you came back!

Good luck with your ant problem. I dont think that a standard poison spray would destroy your grass nor that its very harmful to humans as long as you avoid the area sprayed for 1-2 days...
