You could have a blacklist and an allow list. that way the only people who would bother you are those who weren't on either list. when new people ask to view there could be allow and block options, with a checkbox "always allow/block" whichever you choose for that person.

This would be my proposal:  If a game is publicly viewable, there would be sub options:

1) Secure - this is basically as it is today.
2) Player View - this would let watchers see whatever the players see when a piece is revealed publicly, would use aids & RV if those are enabled, not if not.
3) Enhanced View - this is basically player view, but with RV & GA always turned on for watchers whether players have them or not
4) Complete View - the watchers would see essentially as if the game had the Complete Visibility option on, and would get GA (RV becomes meaningless in a CV situation).  The players would see whatever the game options are.

I'd suggest the default would probably be either #2 or #3.

I really like the extended viewing options chip. great ideas.

Thanks.  I'm excited to start working on it.

Has progress been made on this, Chip?  It would be awesome if even just "Player View" was implemented in time for the upcoming March Madness Tournament. (Begins March 1).

I agree with Xerxes.  It's time for the rubber to meet the road.  Tourney starts in less than 3 weeks.  Is there any way to get this done?

Thanks, Chip!

Since this is a game, why not share knowledge? Even in a LIVE torunament, when the games are NOT RV, the spectators can see both sides, even if the players cannot.

Surely learning to play better is a good thing for the game, and this site.

As was said before, if you are concerned with someone stealing your set-up, wouldn't this cause you to become a better player AND create a new set-up? Again, a process of learning and improving.

So important do I consider this topic, please note I am not posting to 'MY THREAD', so people will see this topic and VOTE.

21 votes is a pretty good number lady. usually the trash polls dont even get 21 votes.

it would be great to have a "who is watching" window for the tournament. but dont get your hopes up people.

I agree.  At a minimum, the 'Player View' really needs to be implemented as soon as possible.  It will make the tournament more enjoyable and will significantly improve the quality of the site.

All games should be viewable.  Period.  Players worried about being scouted are overwhelmingly being paranoid.   I could memorize the last 50 games Sadistic has played, and yet that probably is not going to drastically change the outcome in those 50 games if I played him.  I would most of them because of superior skill.  The fundamentals of a top ten player do not change that radically, and that can overcome a lot more than knowing what piece Sadistic leads with 69% of the time from his center front row.  Do people on the site compile that info?  Maybe. Doubt it matters much.

Now for a gimmick player (like myself), being scouted can be a serious detriment.   But I lotto so wildly and so indiscriminantly that anyone who plays me just generally knows that a marshall is coming and soon.   I am basically being scouted by default because I play so many games here.  Frankly, if some loser wants to scout my games anyway, who cares.  My skill is inferior to the top dogs here, so I compensate but making my flag placements, bomb structures, and overall lotto strategy random.  The general principle is more important...and players who have played me know...prepare for lotto and early aggression.

Commish often plays the same way I do (albeit a little more effectively).  Everyone knows what he is doing.  Why would I scout him?  I already know what is coming.

The bottom line is, if you are a top ten player, you probably got there because of your skill.  Superior skill can probably overcome even the dirtiest scumbag scouting every setup you use.  Do we honestly think any top ten players are there because they meticulously scout their opponents?  I highly doubt that, and with my experiences playing these guys, they are there because of skill (skill includes misrepresenting pieces, patience, effective hunting, getting you to reveal your high pieces first, and keeping their position as fluid as possible at all times).

To further the point: Lets be honest.  Hielco is going to put his flag in the back row, center cut, surrounded by 3 bombs, probably 85-90% of the time.   Why would I need to scout that?  Most top ten players are doing the same.   My goal is to figure out where the other 3 bombs are, and where his triangle in the center is exactly.   I do not need to scout these games to know this.  But despite this knowledge, beating him is still tremendously hard.  He knows I lotto, he knows I am coming in, and yet in roughly 12 games he has never adjusted his setups that radically against me.  That is because he is confident in his skill.    But often the top players do hide their games and I would argue the reasoning is flawed.

I would watch these games for one simple reason...its typical superior technical stratego, from maneuvering, to probing, to bluffing.  As a lotto dominant player like myself, I could probably improve my game a lot by watching.  But mostly these guys go covert.

Here it is, 26 February!  Tournament starts in 2 days.  Is Santa Claus going to visit and add Player View option for the tournament????

As has been discussed ad-nauseum, this feature has been highly desired and even proposed in detail by barbarian.  Perceived value is HIGH!

PUH-LEASE work your magic and add this feature in the next 48 hours!

Maybe he doesn't want to talk to you, Buttercup. I have had several emails from him in the last week. He is alive and doing fine. He is busy trading precious metals to make extra money to support Metaforge because we do not have enough paying members.  Wink

SECOND, ( for saucey: QUOTE 'it would be great to have a "who is watching" window for the tournament. but dont get your hopes up people.'
I thought that IF a player opens the game chat window, the notation that '____ is watching your game' and '____ is no longer watching your game' do appear in that window. Game Chat window is opened by clicking on the CONTROL icon at the lower left in the game board window. Roll Eyes

1. Education - When I started playing here I was pretty terrible. What helped 100x more than getting smoked time after time was watching people who are good play. It can be an immensely useful tool to learn how to move pieces, what to do in certain situations, and how to react to others. Letting noobs watch your games can quickly increase the learning curve, and allow more players to get better, quicker.

that's probaly the problem for some players. too much rank sleeper.
