2011 Garden
Jan 25th, 2011, 11:01pm

Thought I'd put up a few pics & notes of things for this year's garden-to-be...

Heirloom seed - no Mansanto here!

An especially neat looking heirloom variety of cauliflower.

New raised bed on the south facing wall.  Not done yet (obviously).

Mortgage Lifter tomato seedlings.  Started indoors, coming out to enjoy some unusually warm January afternoon sunshine.

I'm looking into Groundnut this spring - anybody ever had them or grown them?  I had never even heard of it until a few days ago.

Supposedly a real good source of protein.  Link is here...

Isn't that new bed going to ruin the tile underneath?

I wouldn't expect that.  I'll put down a liner & some rocks underneath that slope drainage out to the side & keep dirt from touching tile.  The tile also has drainage between the stones, not grout, so any water that does make it through somehow should be able to go into the ground just fine.  Finally, I guess if somehow some dirt does manage to stain the tile beyond repair, as I never plan to remove the bed, it probably doesn't matter anyway.   Wink

Anybody else have any pics, plans, questions, discussions for a garden this year?

here in England, ground nuts are what you Yanks call PEANUTS. They are known mainly for the oil they produce.

Wow, purple cauliflower. How cool! I love purple anything.

Oh, and we call EGGPLANT  Aubergines, also a favourite and also purple, and Zucchini is called gourgettes.

When we get established in Thailand, I will have more to say, as there is a climate that permits 3 or 4 crops a year.

How about Mangos, Papayas, Tamarinds, Lemongrass, and Mekua. All edible and they were growing in the yard when I moved in.

Well I should post some of my 2011 garden pics, and I will, but I'm already planning 2012, so it gets hard to think about the past vs. plan for the future.

Things that worked out great: tomatoes, zucchini, turnips, spinach, lettuce, radish, chives, greenbeans (shitload), peas, onions (shitload)

So so: cucumbers - grew like crazy, but first frost in August killed 'em dead.

Not so good: corn, eggplant

Still to be determined: groundnut, cauliflower (darn quail ate a lot of it - #*%@!#%)

Perrenials still maturing: gooseberry, strawberry, raspberry, blueberry, grapes

Big ass fruit/nut trees still maturing: hazelnut, apple, pecan, nectarine

Needless to say, won't do corn again - too much space too little gain.

I'm going a little more exotic for this year's cold weather plantings: celery, radduchio, kale.  Also looking to add stevia to the mix - want to grow our own sweetnener.

My father does have some land and plant vegetables, tomatoes, potatoes, etc.. are very good, much better than in the store and healthier. But I have no ground for it, nor much time for them.

After my experience with quite a few plants that not survived after hours care, including a lemon, kentya, bonsai, various plants, which did not lift his head and died,

 Sad

I decided to have only green plants and resistant perennial, and some aromatic as lavender, thyme and rosemary.

Then I have other plants around the house. And I have an empty terrace of 45 square meters waiting for that one day I make a small garden to relax reading a good book.

I have too a project in mind, cross a chicken and a pig, for the creature, give directly scrambled eggs and ham.  Cheesy
