2012 March Madness Stratego Tournament The 2012 Metaforge March Madness is officially underway. This is the tournament that everyone waits for and looks forward to playing in. Metaforge's best will come out of hiding to play, the regular game room players and hustlers will be there as well. This is the one you don't want to miss. Look for a solid field of heavy hitters vying for the crown of 2012 March Madness Champion! Sign-ups are now open.
Tournament Description This is the 4th annual March Madness Tournament hosted here at Metaforge. For those who are not familiar with the March Madness style of tournament, I'll give a little refresher. This is a 65 player classic stratego tournament that will be kicked off with a play in game held between the #65 and #64 seeded players. The winner will assume the fourth #16 seed and all players will then be "seeded" depending on their most current 12 month krach average on the morning of February 24th. The tournament bracket is divided into four regions and each region will have it's own players seeded from #1 through #16. All match-ups will be a one game winner moves on style. All regions of the tournament will progress until we eventually have the final four from all regions playing together for a championship.
Timelines Signups will be open from today until 12:00am February 24th. Gameplay will begin on March 1st. First round games will have one week to be completed. Future rounds and deadlines will be posted as we go. "Pick'em" brackets must be received before the tournament begins, so you should have a few to ponder your choices before you turn in your brackets.
Tournament Committee We're currently assembling a fine tournament committee to help organize and run the tournament. Xerxes, Flyers, Razorclaw, NE-Pats and myself will be officiating the event. These guys have volunteered to work to make this tournament flow smooth and be a great event, just like the previous three March Madness tournaments. If you see them in the gameroom....please thank them.
Registrations We will be doing things a little differently this season. Players must register for the tournament by providing a valid email address. We're requiring an email address for a couple of reasons. The main reason is all the players do not use the Message Board, so emails will be our main line of communication to schedule games and to share other tournament information. We'll still post to the message board, but now we'll have other options.
Signups are open to all, the only requirement is a current Metaforge ranking on the 12 month krach average. This is simple to achieve and can be done by simply playing 10 ranked games in February. Keep in mind that you must have a ranking on the morning of Feb 24th to be seeded, so don't let yourself fall out of the ranks because of inactivity.
We will field the top 65 ranked players in our tournament. Now this doesn't mean that only the top ranked players will get in.
Alias accounts are not allowed to play. Players with multiple accounts can pick one of the registered accounts to play with. Razorclaw will monitor this and any player trying to enter two accounts will have to pick one. Also, several players in the top 65 probably will not enter. Last years tournament had a few people that were ranked in the 150's make the field and I'm pretty sure we'll have enough room for most that want to play. Signups are open to all, even if we have more than 65 players signup. We will fill the starting brackets on the last day of signups by the rankings though.....and we can only field 65 players. So my advice to you would be to sign up, and then play well between now and then to insure your spot in the tournament.
"Pick'em" Contest Last year we had a lot of fun playing "pick'em". IT was fun for the players and even those who didn't make the field. This year we will be hosting another game of "pick'em" for all to enjoy. Sometime around Feb 24th, the starting bracket will be posted. All you have to do is print off your bracket and fill it in, guessing who will win each game from the start to the finish. In the end, the player with the most correct guesses will win the "pick'em" contest. Like I said, the "pick'em" game is also open to all.
Xerxes also hosts some other games like his famous "best better" game. Look for more information to be posted soon.
Tournament Gameplay Games will be Classic Stratego and played with some common settings. First off,
all games must be played with public viewing ON! This will allow all members to enjoy the competition.....giving us audiences for our games. Game play options will be set to:
Game Aids off, Remain Visible OFF as default. IF the two players agree, Aids and RV can be turned on, but players must agree. In all honesty, we'd love to see games played here with remain visible on, for the spectators.....but again, it must be agreed apon.
Prizes So far, we're just playing for the title of March Madness Champion. But who know's, maybe some membership extensions might be in the cards for final four and beyond.
