The start of the 2012 Metaforge March Madness Tournament is less than one week away!  This thread is for pre-tournament hype, and will include past results, interesting stats, and previews and analysis of first round games.  Let's start off with a little trip down memory lane:
 
2011 March Madness Results:
 
Champion:  BlasdeLezo
 
Runner-up:  NE-Pats
 
3rd place:  gkaors      4th place:  Sohal
 
 
Elite Eight: SpacemanSpiff, Hulk, killshot, and Sadistic
 
Sweet 16:  lightwing, Jimmy_Whispas, HANNIBAL, Apollo, topspinner, PuffDaddy, darkhorse26, and NP14
 
 
Biggest Upsets:

Pick ‘Em Contest winner:  Tie between NE-Pats and iliketheesauce with 40 out of 64 correct picks.

The Official 2012 Brackets will be posted later tonight.  For now, you can check your seed in the “Odds Sheet” thread.  Here’ s a look at how the various seeds have fared over the past two years.  
 

 
Some things to note:  Favorites have a 53 – 11 record in first round games.  Also, no player seeded lower than #3 have made the final four.   However upsets do happen, as we have seen in the Sweet 16 a couple of #11 seeds, a #12 and a #14!  But curiously no #6 seed has ever won anything after the first round.  What’s up with that? (I’m a #6 this year)
